#5 - Full Moon at the Flatiron

A Love Letter to the Hidden Initiate

She’s the most photographed building in Eureka Springs. People marvel at her architecture, her odd shape, her presence at the curve of Spring Street. Most never guess she’s not original.

This version of the Flatiron was built in 1987—an homage to the ones that came before, both destroyed by fire. She’s made of concrete, not stone. And yet, she holds more mystery than many of her older neighbors.
I took this photo in February, during the off-season, walking home after dinner. The streets were empty. The moon was high. The building hummed.

To most, she’s just another landmark. But I know better. This is where Eureka first spoke to me, nearly 30 years ago. I’ve seen people get dizzy just standing near her. I’ve felt the vortex underfoot. Some say there’s a sunken floor beneath her—perhaps from the original structure, perhaps from some older dream?

She’s not an imposter. She’s a decoy. An initiate disguised as a façade. She lets people project their wonder onto her, quietly keeping the gate.

And the moon? The moon knows.

It shines a spotlight on her not because she’s pretending—but because she remembers.

Moonlight Belongs to Dreamers: Love Letters to Eureka

This piece began as a real photo—taken during a moonlit walk through Eureka Springs. I refine the image in Photoshop, then collaborate with a drawing tool to translate its emotion into an oil painting style. The result is a visual poem—rooted in place, rich with feeling. Every print is finished by hand and paired with its story.
This is art as invocation—an invitation to remember the magic that is all around us.
